Tips

Arrive Early

Allow yourself 10-15 minute to unroll your mat and settle before class.

Wear comfortable clothing

That gives you the freedom to breathe and move with ease.

Bring an open mind

Be curious about your own practice. Be receptive to what is being offered even if it is a different variation to what you are used to doing.  Try it out.  You may have a new experience by doing something in a different way.

Avoid perfume or scented lotion

Strong smells in a room with people doing deep breathing can detract from the yoga practice. Regardless of the type of smell, be mindful that it could be having a negative impact on someone else’s yoga experience.

Leave your cellphone in your bag

Switch you phone to silent mode to not disrupt class and allow your mind to focus on your own practice.

Leave your shoes under the bench

It helps prepare you for yoga and keeps the studio clean.

Let the instructor know

About any injuries, physical challenges or pregnancy before class to enable modifications to be suggested to accommodate your needs.

Be compassionate and don’t judge

Allow yourself to experience each practice without judging yourself or others. It is very common for one side of your body to be different to the other. Meet yourself on your mat where you are in that moment. Let go of your expectations of self and others. If you need to rest, allow yourself to move into Child’s pose or lie down.

Focus on your breath

It will help your concentration.
